“The God who gave us life gave us liberty at the same time...And can the liberties of a nation be thought secure if we have lost the only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are the gift of God? That they are to be violated but with His wrath?” Thomas Jefferson
Contrary to the notions of a verbal few, the foundational principles and the ethical and moral bulwarks of the United States of America are firmly founded on Christian values. The Founding Fathers were unapologetically Christian in education, standard, and faith. Were they human? Yes. Did they stumble? Yes. But regardless of the revisionist history that has come to bear in educational and media circles today they were men of a living faith in Christ.
The documents they produced pointed without hesitation to the sovereignty of God. They acknowledged the Lordship of the Creator God. The words of Thomas Jefferson above point to the liberty celebrated and cherished in this land as nothing less than a gift from God. To assume that these liberties are derived from any other source is to undermine their authority and put us in danger of God’s wrath.
II Corinthians 3 reminds us that the veil of the dullness of mind is to be removed and the radiance of the truth of God revealed. Then we shall be made free in Christ and reflect God’s glory and be “transformed into his likeness”.
The heritage of Lake Aurora is to acknowledge the Lordship of Christ and the sovereignty of God so that we might be free from the burden of sin and be united in his purpose. We strive to radiate his truth in every word, action, and deed. That is our heritage. That is our living hope.
